Ideal candidates for Ultherapy® are in their 30s or older and experience mild to moderate skin laxity. While this treatment will not match the correction of a surgical facelift, it is an excellent treatment for those who are looking for a non-invasive alternative to surgery. Ultherapy® is also helpful for patients who are looking to extend the results of a previous surgical procedure. Patients should be non-smokers, in good general health and have realistic expectations of their results.

Procedure

Ultherapy® uses sound energy to revitalize aging skin on the brow, chin, neck and chest by promoting collagen production. To begin your Ultherapy® procedure, the designated treatment area is cleansed, and an ultrasound gel is applied. The Ultherapy® applicator is attached and the ultrasound imaging process begins. This process allows the technician to see the different layers of skin and determine the best placement and depth for the ultrasound waves. Once this is determined, focused ultrasound waves are delivered into the deep layers of the skin without causing any damage to the surface.

Most patients can feel the energy being delivered and comfort levels vary between patients. However, any discomfort disappears as soon as the procedure is over. This ultrasound energy stimulates collagen production, allowing for natural improvement in your skin’s structure and appearance. Ultherapy® treatment typically takes between 30 and 90 minutes depending on the size of the treatment area. Most patients only require a single treatment; however, patients with a higher level of skin laxity may benefit from a second treatment.

Recovery

Ultherapy® requires no time off of work or any of your activities. Patients can resume their day-to-day schedules immediately following treatment, as there are no restrictions or requirements after your procedure. Patients may experience a bit of redness in the hours following the procedure, but this will dissipate shortly. Common side effects may include slight swelling, tingling or tenderness in the treatment area. Less common side effects may include numbness or bruising.

Results

While some patients see results from Ultherapy® immediately following treatment, most patients experience progressive results over 2 to 3 months, with some patients still seeing noticeable improvement at 6 months. These results become visible as the newly produced collagen lifts and tightens the skin. Patients experience noticeable results after a single treatment. Patients should continue with a healthy lifestyle without smoking or excessive sun exposure to maintain the quality and longevity of their Ultherapy® results.
