Restore your pre-baby body.
Mommy Makeover
Motherhood can be a joyful, rewarding experience for many women; however, the physical demands of pregnancy can leave the shape of the body changed in ways that may be undesirable. After pregnancy, many women struggle with deflated, asymmetrical or sagging breasts. Additionally, bothersome abdominal imperfections, such as residual fat deposits, muscle weakness, stretch marks and skin laxity can develop. With a Mommy Makeover, your pre-pregnancy silhouette can be restored through a combination of procedures that are fully customized to match your desired results.
Benefits of a Mommy Makeover
The Mommy Makeover Process
Step One: Discuss
All of your concerns and preferences are discussed during your consultation with our physicians, and a procedure plan is created to achieve your desired results. Your Mommy Makeover can include breast augmentation to add volume to your bust, a breast lift to reposition the breasts to a higher position on your chest, liposuction or 360 liposuction to remove excess fat from targeted areas of the body and a tummy tuck to reduce fat, extra skin and stretch marks on the abdomen. Concerns regarding nipple placement, size or shape can also be corrected during a Mommy Makeover.
Step Two: Anesthesia
General anesthesia is administered to ensure a comfortable and safe procedure for the patient.
Step Three: Incision
Incisions are made in the specified locations depending on the procedures selected. Breast implants may be placed or tissues repositioned. If liposuction is performed, a thin suctioning device known as a cannula gently removes excess fat from the desired locations.
Step Four: Closing the Incisions
Once the Mommy Makeover procedure has been completed, the incisions are closed using sutures and surgical adhesive. Patients may return to their home after the anesthesia wears off.
Concerns
-
Recovery
Every patient will experience a slightly different recuperation and can expect to rest and take it easy for approximately one week. Some patients feel comfortable returning to work after one week, while others choose to wait longer. The treated areas should be wrapped in surgical gauze and bandages to promote healing. Swelling, bruising, and mild discomfort can be expected for the first few days. Our physicians inject nerve blocks for both breast surgeries and tummy tucks. These blocks help with pain for 2-3 days without the inconvenience of an additional bulb that is required with a pain pump. It can take up to six months for the final results to show.
-
Scars
Scarring will be present at the incision locations, and our physicians make the smallest incisions possible in the most inconspicuous areas available. Scars should fade with time and avoiding exposure to direct sunlight will help reduce visible scarring. Additional scar care instructions will be given to you by our physicians and are also available on our web site.
-
Cost
Every procedure is tailored to each patient’s unique desires, so pricing varies. All fees include anesthesia costs, surgeons fees and surgical facility fees. There may be additional costs for medications and testing required before surgery.
-
Aftercare
Postoperative care instructions are provided and should be followed carefully. It is essential to stay hydrated and get plenty of sleep during your recovery to ensure a comfortable healing process. Strenuous exercise and all heavy lifting should be avoided until you are cleared to do so. It is recommended that you have a friend or family member available for the first few days to take care of you and your daily responsibilities until you are feeling better.
Before & After
Frequently Asked Questions
-
Is a Mommy Makeover right for me?
Any patient who has cosmetic concerns regarding multiple areas of their body may benefit from a Mommy Makeover. It is important to have realistic expectations of the results and maintain a steady weight. It is also advised that patients be finished having children before undergoing a Mommy Makeover, as another pregnancy can affect the outcome of this procedure.
-
Can I combine any other procedures with my Mommy Makeover?
Many patients choose to add another procedure, such as a facelift or injectables, to their Mommy Makeover to reduce signs of facial aging. Discuss your desired outcome with Dr. Vijay during your consultation to ensure all of your concerns are addressed.
-
Why is combining procedures beneficial?
By combining procedures into one operation, recovery time is reduced and surgery is more cost effective because facility fees and other associated costs are only being paid once.
-
What lifestyle changes will be needed during my Mommy Makeover recovery?
During your recovery, it is crucial that you do not place tension or stress on your incisions. To do this, you will need to adjust your sleeping habits to avoid placing weight on your breasts and abdomen when possible. You should also avoid strenuous chores and activities for the first two weeks.
-
Do I need to lose weight before my Mommy Makeover?
Patients should be within 15 pounds of their ideal weight before undergoing a Mommy Makeover. A Mommy Makeover is not a weight-loss procedure and will not prevent additional weight gain. Excessive weight gain or further pregnancies following the operation can reduce the effectiveness of the results. Maintaining a stable weight will preserve the beneficial effects of the procedure.
-
Is a Mommy Makeover painful?
Your surgeon will use nerve blockers to ensure minimal pain during the first three days of your recovery. After that, mild to moderate pain and discomfort should be expected. Most patients choose to manage the pain with over-the-counter pain medications, such as TYLENOL®. Prescription medication can also be prescribed on an as-needed basis.
-
Are the results permanent?
Your rejuvenated body contours are meant to be long lasting. Weight fluctuations and the aging process will eventually affect your results, but exercise and a healthy diet will help to prolong them.
